Hello!
I’m Alan Moore and I live in North Yorkshire in the UK. It’s a beautiful part of the country and my particular little vegetable garden nestles just below the edge of the Yorkshire Wolds. If I look across my vegetable patch, I can see the Yorkshire Moors in the distance – beautiful, scenic and my favourite part of the UK!
I’m near the beginning of a massive mind-shift (maybe it’s my mid-life crisis, who knows!) where I’ve had enough of working from 9-5, having plenty of money for my needs but no time to actually enjoy it!
At present, I’m ‘downshifting’ and learning how to live with less. I grow my own vegetables (30 varieties at present) and I’m also passionate about organic food and trying to live ‘greener‘.
I’m not a saint by any stretch of the imagination, but I do think these things are important and something that the world should be addressing now before our natural resources run out.

I’m working as a supply teacher which gives me more free time but less income. My options were to re-enter teaching (a very stressful occupation and one that is constantly knocked about by government and society) or learn to be a little more self sufficient and to live with less. I chose the latter!
I’ve said this before on other pages of the website, I’m NOT a vegetable gardening expert. However, I am learning through trial and error and I’m now the proud owner of a very productive veg patch which provides almost enough food for my family throughout the Summer (I still need to figure out Winter grub!).
We’re all vegetarian and so enjoy cooking healthy, tasty food and trying out new recipes – all made from ingredients taken from our plot only minutes before. You can’t get that from shops and supermarkets!
I’ve taught myself about composting (hey… stop sniggering!) and plan on becoming an expert ‘rotter’ which will benefit the soil and veg production. You ought to give compost a go if you haven’t tried making your own – it’s actually a fascinating subject!
Thanks for calling by and please let me know who you are: share your growing tips, have a rant about the world… anything you want.
I’m all ears!
