Garden Relaxation

Garden RelaxationI really miss not being in the garden as much as I’d like during the cold and wet Winter months. Despite the weather (and a bad back!) I’m going to have to dig over the veg plot soon (and add the manure).

However, I also enjoy being in the garden for its relaxation properties. There’a nothing better than breathing in fresh air, getting your hands dirty and observing all the wildlife around you. In fact, I find it one of the best stress management techniques around.

Personally, garden relaxation is vital for my physical and mental health!

It’s great to get away from modern technology and unwind in the presence of nature. As a race, we are becoming divorced from food production methods and so growing vegetables is not only healthy and cost-effective, but it is also a great stress reliever and results in a sense of pride and achievement.

In the garden you also are subjected to sunlight which is very good indeed for your mental health. It’s also physically demanding and will result in a good old workout!

So, for those of us stuck in the middle of Winter, here are a few resources to help you unwind if you struggle with the short days and lack of sunlight…

  1. Healthy? Happy? Relaxed? Matt Clarkson has created a no-cost, mini-course teaching simple meditation exercises for busy people. Each part gives you an exercise, inspirational message or tip to help you calm the mind and reduce stress. If your health is important to you, click here.
  2. Finally, here’s a video called, ‘Garden of Relaxation‘. It’s a nine minute hypnotherapy session that might just help you to unwind after a long, stressful day at work, especially if the weather prevents you from getting out into the garden.

But what about YOU?

Do you find gardening relaxing? What aspects of gardening do you find are the best for reducing blood pressure and unwinding?
