If you’ve been wondering what garden tools you should buy for helping with your food production efforts, watch this video before dashing out to the local gardening store.
There are only a few gardening implements that are essential, so save your money and don’t try to buy every shiny looking tool in the shop!
So, here’s a quick recap of what you need and why:
- A fork – good for breaking and turning the soil, get square tines
- A shovel – long-handled, round-pointed is best
- A rake – short-toothed, smooths the soil
- Hand cultivators – good for rooting out small weeds from the base of plants and fluffing up the soil
- A trowel – good for digging small holes, planting and transplanting
Now, I have to admit that I like using a garden hoe, mainly because it’s easier on my back and I don’t have to bend down. However, I can see that a couple of good hand cultivators will enable you to get up close to your plants and avoid damaging them.
What do you think?
Have you a favourite garden tool that has been handed down to you through generations?
Let me know!
