Sustainable Apparel

Sustainable ApparelThose lovely folks over at Joybilee Farm have a great newsletter (Purple Sheep!) and their latest edition covers sustainable apparel, or ‘Clothing Yourself Sustainably with Local Resources‘.

I buy very few new clothes these days and always wear my old clothes out to within an inch of their lives!

I’ve started chopping up and composting and natural fibres but the Purple Sheep newsletter gave me food for thought about reusing old clothes and making them go further.

The nearest we’ve got to this, as a family, is using old clothes to make rag rugs – the cats love them, epsecially when placed in front of a roaring log fire!

Upcycling worn out jeans and t-shirts is a new idea for me but  the Joybilee Farm team seem to have making yarn down to a fine art. You can read how to do it here: Purple Sheep Newsletter.

Hard To Beet also has a page with some great tips demonstrating how to be self sufficient.

Sustainable Apparel Videos

Finally, here are a few videos that I discovered giving more information about sustainable apparel and how you can lessen your impact on the planet. In addition, those interested in varying degrees of sustainable clothing design should definitely check these out.
