Following on from my recent post about the Woodland Trust, I received a nice comment from Woodland Trust campaigner, Kaye Brennan, who directed me to an informative article called: Water and Woods. It’s well worth a read.
Also, download ‘The Water Report’ whilst you’re there (the link is in the right sidebar on that page). Again, an interesting read.
For anybody interested in protecting the environment, the website gives lots of information about ‘how woods reduce water pollution‘, ‘how woods can reduce flooding‘, and ‘woods and water policy‘.
Head over there now and don’t forget to download the ‘Water Report‘.
Meanwhile, I can thoroughly recommend joining the Woodland Trust as they are at the forefront of taking action in terms of woodland creation here in the UK.
Personally, I always look forward to receiving their ‘Broadleaf’ magazine (it’s a fantastic read for when you’re in the bath – but maybe that’s too much info for you, sorry!).
If you’ve any comments or views, as usual, leave them below!

Another nice post Alan (of course I’m biased!) – really glad to read that you were inspired by our Mike’s report. Hot on the heels of our ‘Managing the Drought’ publication, which is also available at the link you gave, Mike is about to release one about woodland and flooding – trying to keep up with this erratic weather! ;p
PS: Hackfall is one of my favourite woods too, I love the view across the woods from high up the ridge – with an early morning mist hanging above the canopy, it could be almost be tropical rainforest.
It’s funny, Kaye, somebody said last week that we were having the ‘wettest drought on record!’ It certainly seems that way.
Yes, Hackfall could almost be an Amazonian rainforest when there’s a mist hanging in the air. Sounds dramatic, but it left me speechless when I was last there – it’s a real ‘secret garden’!
Thanks for commenting again. I must write a newsletter about trees in the near future. In fact, I’m behind with the May edition so I’d better get on!
Thanks again. Always nice to have your expertise lurking in the background!
